Rev. Tie King Tai grew up in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia, where as a teenager searching for the purpose of life he came to faith and was born again in Christ. He earned a B.S. in Microbiology from Texas A&M University in 1980, served in the Chinese church in College Station, and there received God's call to full-time ministry. In 1981 he entered Dallas Theological Seminary for the Master of Theology program while planting and pastoring the Denton Chinese Church. At the end of 1986 he returned to Malaysia, where he pastored Xin Fu Yuan Methodist Church in Sibu, Wesley Methodist Church, and Trinity Methodist Church in Kuching (concurrently shepherding the Matang, Faith, and Siniawan preaching centers), while also serving as District Superintendent of Kuching.

In 2000 he was appointed a full-time lecturer at the Methodist Theological School in Sibu and served as its principal from 2006 to 2016. He received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Dallas Theological Seminary in 2001 and has been a visiting professor in the DTS Doctor of Ministry program ever since. From 2017 to 2020 he served as President of the Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference of the Methodist Church. In 2022 he became Senior Pastor of Dallas Chinese Fellowship Church. He and his wife, Chen Chian Ming, have two daughters, one son, and three grandchildren. He loves basketball and ping-pong.

As Senior Pastor, Rev. Tie provides pastoral leadership and administrative oversight of the church's ministries — worship, equipping, service, missions, and fellowship. He chairs the Elder Board, assesses the congregation's present and long-term needs, provides counsel and leadership, helps the church affirm its identity and direction, and represents DCFC to outside organizations and government agencies.
