Minister Sunny Kao came to faith in 1982 and graduated from Dallas Baptist University in 1992. Called by God in 1990, she entered Dallas Theological Seminary in 1994, majoring in Christian Education. From 1995 to 2004 she and her husband served at North Texas Chinese Church, where she led the children's ministry. In 2004 the family returned to Taiwan, where she joined the China Sunday School Association, writing and publishing mixed-age Sunday school curriculum for ages 1–6 and training teachers, and served as an adjunct lecturer at the Hakka Mission Theological Seminary. She returned to the U.S. in 2008 and has served at DCFC ever since, developing children's and family ministries, teacher training, and a Bible study group for parents of children with special needs. She received her Doctor of Ministry degree from Dallas Theological Seminary in 2014. She and her husband, Rev. Hsieh Pin-Chang, have one son.

As Children's Minister, she is chiefly responsible for:

Children's Christian education — providing, planning, and overseeing a balanced program of teaching, worship, fellowship, discipleship, and evangelism for the children's ministry, including Friday AWANA, Saturday and Sunday special-needs ministry, children's Sunday school for both the Chinese and English congregations, children's choir, VBC (summer children's camp), summer Friday children's ministry, and special outreach events at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Family equipping — caring for and visiting families, partnering with parents to teach and disciple children at home and at church; providing, planning, and hosting family seminars and training, Mother's Day and Father's Day celebrations, and a 12-session parenting course.

Teacher development — caring for, visiting, and equipping the children's ministry teams; providing, planning, and implementing a 12-session teacher-training course; working closely with class leaders to host teacher-appreciation events and to care for and shepherd the teachers and support staff.
